SHAPES Award
WHEN?
Nomination deadline: February 25, 2008
WHAT?
We ask each elementary school to nominate one teacher. Individual teacher nominations will also be accepted.
The SHAPES Awards are given to:
- one teacher
- one site-based administrator or district personnel
- one school, and
- one community leader/business
...who have demonstrated their commitment to mathematics education in Hillsborough County.
NOMINATION CONSIDERATIONS:
TEACHERS:
- SERVICE -- The nominee has made a contribution to the support and/or development of an effective mathematics program at a school site.
- HOLISM -- The nominee views a child’s learning of mathematics as a necessity for the child’s future success in life.
- AWARENESS -- The nominee has knowledge of national, state, and local mathematics standards.
- PARTICIPATION -- The nominee is involved in home, school, and/or community activities related to mathematics.
- ENTHUSIASM -- The nominee demonstrates a wholehearted dedication to promoting a positive attitude toward mathematics.
- SUCCESS -- The nominee has been involved in activities which have had an impact on the teaching and/or learning of mathematics (grants, partnerships, pilot programs, teacher training, awards, etc.).
ADMINISTRATORS/DISTRICT-LEVEL PERSONNEL:
All nominated administrators/district level personnel will be considered based upon their ability to foster the learning of mathematics, and their commitment to and/or involvement in mathematics education.
SCHOOLS:
All nominated schools will be considered based upon the level of involvement in mathematics at their school site and in the community at large.
COMMUNITY/BUSINESS (Individual or Organization):
All nominees in this category will be considered based upon the level of involvement and success the community/business leader has contributed to mathematics in a school or in the district.
DATES:
- Nomination forms are due by March 3, 2008.
- Nominees and finalists will be notified during the week of March 31, 2008.
- Six teacher finalists will be invited to the May HCEMC dinner meeting (date to be announced) where the winner will be announced.
AWARDS:
- All teacher finalists will receive a complimentary meal and other mementos.
- The teacher winner will receive a $250 cash award.
- The administrator winner will receive a $100 cash award.
- The winning school will receive a gift certificate for purchasing math resources.
- All other SHAPES awards will also be presented during the May dinner meeting (date to be announced).
